PART B — PRIVACY POLICY

Last updated: 30 September 2026

15. Who we are and what this policy covers

Inspirational Publications is a Christian publishing house registered in Kenya. We publish and sell Christian books as ebooks and as printed copies, and we host books for other Christian authors and publishers.

We are the data controller for the personal information described here. This policy applies to everyone who uses the website: readers who browse or buy, people who request printed copies, authors and publishers who submit manuscripts, and affiliates who earn commission.

Part A above governs the relationship between us and our authors and publishers. This Part B governs what we do with personal information, and it applies to you whether or not you have an account.

16. The information we collect

Information you give us

  • Your account — your name, email address, telephone number, and the country, city and address you enter.
  • Orders — the books you buy, what you paid, and the billing details you provide.
  • Printed copy requests — your name, email address, telephone number, country, city, county, how many copies you want, whether you want courier or post office delivery, and any note you add.
  • Authors and publishers — the manuscript you submit, your certificate of ownership, your author profile and photograph, and the M-Pesa number you are paid on.
  • Affiliates — the payout details you register.
  • Reviews — the rating and comment you leave, which appear publicly next to your name.
  • Support tickets — what you write to us and any file you attach.
  • Newsletter — your email address, if you subscribe.

Information we record as you use the site

  • Reading and download records. Each time you open a book in our reader or download a free book, we record which book it was, whether you read or downloaded it, the date and time, your IP address and your browser and device description. We keep these records to protect our authors' copyright and to detect accounts being shared or books being copied.
  • Your place in a book, so you can carry on where you stopped.
  • Technical information — your IP address, browser, device and operating system, the pages you visit and the language you choose.

17. Watermarking

When you read a book in our online reader, every page is stamped with your full name, your email address and the date. This is visible only to you while you read; it is there to discourage copying and to identify the source if a book is distributed without permission. If you would rather not have your details shown this way, do not open the reader — but be aware the book cannot be read without it.

18. Why we use your information

We use what we collect to:

  • give you the books you have bought or claimed, and keep them in your library;
  • process payments and issue receipts;
  • quote and arrange delivery of printed copies;
  • answer your questions and provide support;
  • calculate and pay royalties to authors and commission to affiliates;
  • protect our authors' copyright and investigate misuse of the reader;
  • keep the website secure and working properly;
  • send you our newsletter, if you asked for it;
  • understand how the site is used so we can improve it;
  • meet our legal, tax and accounting obligations.

We rely on your consent for marketing emails, on the contract between us for everything needed to sell and deliver books, on our legitimate interest in protecting copyright and securing the site, and on the law where the law requires us to keep records.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with anyone else for their own marketing.

19. Cookies

We use cookies to keep you signed in, remember your cart, your language and your display preferences, and to understand how the site is used. You can refuse or delete cookies in your browser settings, but parts of the site — signing in, the cart, the reader — will not work without them.

20. Who we share information with

We share information only with organisations that help us run the business, and only with what they need:

  • the company that hosts the website and stores its data;
  • payment providers, including M-Pesa and card processors, who handle your payment — we never see or store your full card details;
  • the service that sends our emails;
  • analytics services that tell us how the site is used;
  • our professional advisers, where necessary.

Each is bound to keep your information confidential and to use it only for the work we give them.

We will also disclose information where the law requires it, where a court or the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner orders it, or where it is necessary to establish or defend a legal claim.

Authors and publishers: we report sales and royalties to the author of the books you buy. Those reports show what sold and when. They do not carry your name, email address or contact details.

21. Where your information is held

Our website and its database are hosted on servers outside Kenya. Your information is therefore transferred out of the country. We only use hosting providers that apply appropriate safeguards to keep it secure and confidential, as required by the Data Protection Act, 2019.

22. How long we keep it

  • Your account and library — for as long as your account is open. Your library is the record of what you own, so it stays while the account does.
  • Orders, payments and royalties — seven years after the transaction, as tax and accounting law requires.
  • Printed copy requests — three years, so we can deal with queries about an order.
  • Reading and download records — twelve months, then deleted.
  • Support tickets — three years after the ticket is closed.
  • Newsletter subscriptions — until you unsubscribe.

Where we no longer need information, we delete it or remove anything that identifies you.

23. How we protect it

We use encrypted connections (HTTPS), store passwords in a form that cannot be reversed, restrict administrative access to named staff, and keep book files outside the public area of the website so they can only be reached by someone entitled to them. We back up the database regularly.

No system is completely secure, and we cannot promise that information sent over the internet is safe from interception. If a breach occurs that is likely to harm you, we will notify you and the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner as the law requires.

24. Your rights

Under the Data Protection Act, 2019 you have the right to:

  • be told what we hold about you and why;
  • see a copy of it;
  • correct anything inaccurate or incomplete;
  • delete it, where we no longer have a reason to keep it;
  • object to how we use it, including for marketing;
  • withdraw consent at any time, where we relied on your consent;
  • receive a copy in a portable form.

To exercise any of these, email inspirepublicly@gmail.com with the words "Data request" in the subject line. We will reply within 30 days. We may ask you to confirm who you are before we act.

Deleting your account will remove your access to books you bought, because the library is the record of ownership. We will tell you this before we act on such a request.

If you are not satisfied with how we have handled your information, you may complain to the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner, whose contact details are at www.odpc.go.ke.

25. Children

The website is intended for adults. Authors and publishers must be 18 or over, as clause 1 states. We do not knowingly collect information from a child under 18 without the consent of a parent or guardian. If you believe a child has given us their information, write to us and we will delete it.

26. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The current version is always on this page, with the date it was last changed at the top. Where a change materially affects how we use your information, we will tell you by email or by a notice on the website before it takes effect.
